Kunjaban Palace, Tripura: This yet another imperial palace, built by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya, is located nearby Ujjayanta Palace bears a testimony of affiliation of RabindraNath Tagore, the Nobel laureate poet, with it. The picturesque charm of this palace positioned in the emerald hillocks inspired him to compose many memorable songs. The lush gardens, lawns and yards are worth seeing which is the official residence of Governor of Tripura. “Rabindra Kann” is the southern part of the garden which is open for public.
Neer mahal Palace, Tripura: This water – palace built on Rudra Sagar Lake is a royal Palace with influence of Hindu and Mughal architecture. The castles, the whopping towers, the moats and the bridges here are simply breath taking. The two parts of the palace, one on Western side called “Andar Mahal (used by the royal family) and the other one on Eastern side (used by the security personnel and servants), flood lighting, open stage theater is very lovely here. How about the Light and Sound Show ! Yes, it has even more to it – water sports. Great recreation indeed !
Malancha Niwas, Tripura: It is a bungalow adjoining the Kunjban Palace located on a hillock. It was basically a Kachcha House where RabindraNath Tagore stayed in 1919. It was gradually develpoed as a Pucca House and named Malancha Niwas.
Tripura University: the aspirations of the state’s people for academic excellence at the highest level and quest for knowledge. Akhura Check Post: Akhaura check post , in seclusion on the western edges of Agartala, The partition of 1947 created a permanent barrier and the Assam-Agartala national highway No-44 had to be built in the early fifties of last century to secure Tripura’s link with the Indian heartland. But since the momentous partition Akhaura has emerged as the nerve centre of legalized cross-border movement and , of late, a hub of border trade. A visit to the quiet environs of around Akhaura check post is an eye-soothing experience for all tourists.
Tripura Government Museum: Tripura Government Museum is important to the tourists, students, general public and research scholars to know about the History & Culture of past and present people of the State. Most of the sculptures acquired and displayed so far are from Udaipur, Pilak, Jolaibari and other sites of Tripura, the sculptures from Pilak are the exquisite collections, depicting mixed culture of both Hindu and Buddhist religious. they are famous itself for the style and variety of theme. The sculptures are mostly dated back to 9th to 13thcent. A. D. Most of the sculptures and made of sand stone and for that the formation of sculpture is very crude in nature. Low relief Dasavatar panels collected from Radhanagar in the vicinity of Agartala dated back to 18th cent. A. D. are the exquisite pieces of sculpture. The museum preserves the arts and crafts of Tripura consisting of rare stone and bronze idols and images, ancient coins, archaeological items of Tripura and neighboring areas, Embroidery of Bengal (Kantha) and Buddhist sculptures from Pilak dating back to 8th to 10th century.
Purbasa: Tripura is noted for its exquisite and beautiful bamboo, cane and wooden handicrafts including cotton, silk, polyester. Visitors can watch the craft persons at work and end up shopping at ‘Purbasha’ and any of the Handloom and Handicrafts sales Emporium in any of the tourist centres including Agartala
Nehru Park: Nehru Park in front of ‘Aranya Bhawan’, headquarter of the forest department. It had taken lot of efforts and expenses to process the soil and prepare it for varied floral plants with spaces for seating in the emerging green cover . The Park , inaugurated in the year 2003.
Benuban Bihar: The Buddhist shrine, namely “Benuban Vihar”-though small in size-preserves some beautiful metal idols of Lord Buddha. Buddha Jayanti or the day of Buddha’s advent is celebrated on Buddha Purnima day with great enthusiasm. A visit to this monastery can be a peaceful experience.
Rabindra Kanan: ‘Rabindra Kanan’, a park with lush greenery and an abundance of flowers, is home to children and young people, looking for a peaceful nest for heart-to-heart chatting. It is south of Raj Bhawan, the sprawling. Apart from the colourful flowers , beauty of the park is a ‘Puppet House’ for children who enormously enjoy the puppet shows.
